At the Gabba five years ago, Mitchell Starc and Mickey Arthur made their
Australia Test debuts together: Starc as a player, Arthur as coach.

Arthur is back at the Gabba as coach - but not of Australia; his tenure famously
ended on the eve of the 2013 Ashes in England with a surprise sacking and the
installation of Darren Lehmann as his replacement. And so, just as Starc,
Warner, Lyon and Usman Khawaja entered the Brisbane Test of 2011 with Arthur
their mentor, now they approach the Gabba with Arthur in charge of their
opposition: Pakistan.It is not a unique situation in international cricket and
not even for Arthur, who had coached South Africa and then in 2012-13 coached
Australia against them. Starc remembered Arthur as a nice guy, but said the
Australians had moved on from his tenure, and described the group as a lot
closer under Lehmann.He has been a coach of an Australian cricket team, he spent
some time in domestic cricket in Australia, hell have a bit of knowledge around
the Gabba and some of our players, Starc said of Arthur. But our team has
changed immensely since he has been put out of the job... were a lot
closer.Boofs [Lehmann] obviously brought his own coaching theories and concepts
into the group, so the group has obviously changed personnel-wise as well. Weve
developed massively as a squad since the time of Mickey Arthur, and I think all
for the better.Starcs own Test career has taken off since Lehmann joined the
squad. Under Arthur, Starc was in and out of the side and collected 30 wickets
at 34.03. Under Lehmann, he has picked up 99 wickets at 25.73 and become one of
the most effective bowlers in world cricket. This is not to suggest a
correlation, for Starc was young and still developing his game during Arthurs
reign, but Starc said there were clear differences between the two coaches.One
probably rode the game a little bit more and I think at times found it hard to
watch, Starc said. Whereas Boof instils a lot of confidence in you, he has got
that laid back old-school attitude but doesnt sugar coat anything. I think thats
what this young group needs as well, with some hard truths sometimes.Obviously
over the last couple of months we havent played our best cricket but having a
nice win in Adelaide and a good amount of cricket in the last 10 days to win
that series against New Zealand pretty solidly. So I think weve got a bit of
momentum behind us and Boof has been great to contribute to that.Pakistan enter
this series ranked fourth in Test cricket while Australia are third, but notably
both sides have spent time at No. 1 this year. Australia are searching for their
first series win since the tour of New Zealand in February, having lost away to
Sri Lanka and at home to South Africa, while Pakistan are coming off a series
defeat in New Zealand.Theyve played some really good cricket over the last
year-and-a-half to fight to the top of the world rankings in the last couple of
months, Starc said of Pakistan. Theyve struggled in New Zealand and probably
struggle a little more away from home - theyre really comfortable in the UAE.So
its a good opportunity for us in this Test match in Brisbane to assert our
dominance first up, make an impression in the first Test of the series, which we
all know goes a long way to working out the final result.

the week honors.Dodsons performance in her teams 3-0 win at No. 12 Florida on
Sept. 22 was its own masterpiece of persistence, with two crucial goals scored
on a night that could have been about missed chances. Given the stakes, that
effort was its own candidacy. But there was Dodson on Sunday, no less
resplendent with two goals and two assists in a 4-2 comeback win at
Georgia.Auburn traveled to Florida without a road win over the SECs bellwether
program during the two-decade history of the series. The Tigers eight previous
trips to Gainesville produced a total of three goals. The Tigers, in other
words, would have taken a goal any way they could get it.When Florida offered
just that, Dodson didnt let aesthetics stand in the way of progress.A
goalkeepers errant judgment in playing the ball out and subsequent loose first
touch on a back pass turned into Auburns opening goal because Dodson never
switched off. At full sprint, she got to that loose first touch before the
keeper and slid the ball into the suddenly wide-open goal for Auburns first lead
of any kind in Gainesville since 2011.With Auburn ahead by two goals late but
fending off Florida pressure, Dodson was still running down chances.

ball out of danger toward Dodson, then near midfield but still in Auburns half.
The ball barreled past her with enough pace that it seemed an easy claim for the
Florida goalkeeper racing out of her goal. After a game spent pressuring high up
the field, it would have been easy for Dodson to catch her breath and worry
about defending what was behind her. Instead, she took off at full speed,
blocked the goalkeepers kick and got just enough on her own shot to send the
ball rolling slowly more than 30 yards into an open net.That she couldnt enjoy
it in the moment, leveled by the desperate keeper as the goal-bound shot was
released, presumably didnt keep her from enjoying it later while applying ice.On
a different night, she might have kicked herself for opportunities missed -- on
two occasions in the second half, she found herself with clean looks at goal
when played in by Casie Ramsier, only to pull the shots just wide of the post.
Instead, Dodson created more chances.Not that she cant produce a finish worthy
of a skills video. Her first goal against Georgia, which tied the game 2-2 early
in the second half, was a beautiful individual effort that saw her nutmeg a
defender with her first touch, then use her next two touches to deke her way
past a second defender and set up an angle for a shot she stuck in the top
corner.The winner came 12 minutes later, when Dodson again crossed up a defender
and calmly put herself in position for a point-blank finish.
